How to Propagate Philodendron
Rooting a heart shape philodendron plant (Philodendron) is very easy. All you need is a pair of clean pruners and a small container of houseplant potting soil. Here’s what to do:
-
·Cut a piece of stem about 3-6 inches long, it's best to cut just above another leaf
-
·Remove all the leaves from the cutting except the top three or four, be sure not to bury any of the leaves in the rooting medium.
-
Dip the base of the stem cutting in rooting hormone to encourage strong swift root growth.
-
Place the cutting in moist (not dripping wet or soggy) vermiculite or potting soil
-
Place your container with the cuttings in bright, indirect sunlight (put it anywhere where the plant gets light without it being in full sun)
Green Thumb Tip: It best to place planted cuttings along a windowsill with indirect sunlight or filtered light (like in front of a sheer curtain) on a nearby table, stand or shelf.
Insert the cutting in good-quality potting soil in a pot that's 3 or 4 inches wide. If your parent plant is large enough, take five or six cuttings at one time and let all of them root in the same jar. In two or three weeks, roots will sprout, followed by new leaves in another week or so. Gently tug on the cutting to check for pulling resistance. If you feel resistance, this means that roots have formed and holding on to the soil. Then when planted, they will grow to a full plush pot. When the root began to come out the drainage holes, It’s time to re-pot into a larger planter.
Propagation: ·Cut a piece of stem about 3-6 inches long, it's best to cut just above another leaf. Propagate in rain water or soil mixture.
