PLANT LIGHT COMPASS
Natural Light for House Plants from Windows
-
Q. So which window do I place my houseplants in?
-
A. Not all plants require the same light, though natural sunlight is excellent for all plants. Too much light will harm some plants, as not enough light will kill many others. When arranging plants either indoors or out, place plants in their proper location according to their light needs. Indoors, there windows facing: north, east, south and east, although each window receives sunlight through them, the sunlight rays are the strongest according to the time of day.
Window Light Compass for Houseplants
-
Early morning sun (dawn-sunrise) – light rays are weak and cool
-
High-noon sun (mid-day) – sunlight rays are strong and warming
-
Afternoon to Evening (mid-evening) – the sun-rays are the strongest and hot
-
Sunset to nightfall (Twilight) – the sun-rays weakens as the sun goes down, making it cooler
This cycle occurs daily, and the season of the year makes a difference on the temperature not the light produced by the sun.
So, place houseplants anywhere where they receive adequate light for their growing needs according to the plants’ labeling.
